How do you present your licence when collecting a car in Marrakech?

Send a photo of your licence and passport on WhatsApp when you book, then bring both originals to the handover in Marrakech. We check the expiry date, the driver's age against the vehicle class, and the name against your reservation before you sign anything.

  1. Send your licence details

Message a photo of your driving licence and passport with your pickup and return dates, and where you want the car delivered.

  2. We verify eligibility

We check the licence script, the expiry date and the driver's age against the vehicle class you have chosen. Luxury and convertible models need a driver of 25 or over.

  3. Bring the originals to handover

Photos confirm eligibility in advance, but the physical licence and passport travel with you to Ménara airport, your riad or our office.

  4. Sign the condition report

The licence number is recorded on the rental contract. Once the names match and the car is checked over, you drive away.

What else should you know about driving licences in Morocco?

Do you need an International Driving Permit to drive in Morocco?

No. Morocco accepts a national driving licence printed in Latin script without an IDP. An IDP or certified translation is only needed for licences issued in non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Cyrillic.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Marrakech?

21 years old for economy, compact and SUV classes, rising to 25 for luxury and convertible models. Drivers under 25 pay a €5-a-day young-driver surcharge, on any class they book.

Can you rent a car in Marrakech with a licence less than two years old?

Yes, for a standard rental. The two-year rule only applies to the no-deposit waiver, which needs a licence held at least two years and a driver aged 23 or over.

Does Marrakesh Car Rental accept a UK or US driving licence?

Yes. Both are printed in Latin script, so Marrakesh Car Rental accepts a UK or US licence exactly as it accepts one from the EU, Canada or Australia, with no translation or IDP needed.

What documents do you bring to collect the car?

Your original driving licence, your passport or national ID, and the booking confirmation, all showing the same name. The licence number is recorded on the signed rental contract at handover.

Can a licence issued in Arabic or Chinese script be used?

Yes, alongside an International Driving Permit or a certified French translation. Without one of the two, the licence alone does not meet Morocco's requirement for a Latin-script document.
